ISLAMABAD: Senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Omar Ayub has resigned as a member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.
Omar, who is the Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly, tendered his resignation to the National Assembly Speaker on Tuesday.
According to his resignation letter, a copy of which is available with HUM News English, Omar Ayub has nominated MNA Barrister Gohar Ali Khan to succeed him in the commission
“This decision has been taken after careful consideration and is necessitated by the multitude of First Information Reports (FIRs) and legal cases filed against me, which require my immediate and undivided attention. The current legal challenges hinder my ability to serve the Commission effectively, and I believe it is in the best interest of the institution to allow someone with a clear focus to assume this vital role,” he wrote in his letter to the Speaker.

Nominating Barrister Gohar for his succession, he said, “I am confident that his legal acumen, integrity, and dedication will be a valuable asset to the Commission.”
Ayub also requested the Speaker that “my resignation may be processed at the earliest convenience and the necessary arrangements be made for the nomination of Barrister Gohar Ali Khan as Member of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan.”
The Judicial Commission of Pakistan was established under the 26th Constitutional Amendment, which officially became an act of Parliament with the approval of President Asif Ali Zardari on October 21.
On October 28, PTI decided to formally become part of the commission that appoints judges to the superior judiciary of Pakistan.
The commission includes the four most senior judges, the Federal Law Minister, the Attorney General, and representatives from both the National Assembly and Senate, along with a representative from the bar councils with at least 15 years of experience.
