ISLAMABAD: In a significant development, the British Council has introduced an innovative feature for IELTS test takers, offering them the opportunity to improve specific sections of their test scores without the need for a complete retest.
Named ‘One Skill Retake,’ this pioneering feature allows candidates to reattempt a single section of the IELTS test, including listening, reading, writing, or speaking, while preserving the original format and timing of that particular section, according to a national daily report.

Andrew Mackenzie, the Director of IELTS at the British Council, emphasized that this innovation reflects the organization’s commitment to its customers. He noted that they recognized the potential for test takers to achieve their best scores on test day with proper preparation and support. ‘One Skill Retake’ empowers candidates to revisit a specific skill if they feel their initial performance did not accurately reflect their English proficiency, thereby promoting fairness.
Furthermore, institutions that accept IELTS scores with the ‘One Skill Retake’ option can offer candidates flexibility in meeting entry requirements while maintaining high standards. This initiative underscores the dedication of IELTS partners to assisting test takers in realizing their full potential.
Candidates who choose ‘One Skill Retake’ will receive a secondary Test Report Form suitable for migration and academic purposes. Depending on their results, they can choose to use either their original or new test report for the specific skill they retake. This feature can be booked within 60 days of the initial IELTS test, providing candidates with increased flexibility and control over their test outcomes.
