Over 150 rescue units deployed as KP battles deadly floods


Authorities in KP mobilised over 176 rescue units and established 60 emergency points along riverbanks as floods ravage across the province.

PESHAWAR: Authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) mobilised over 176 rescue units and established 60 emergency points along riverbanks as devastating monsoon-triggered floods wreak havoc across the province.

According to DG Rescue Tayyab Abdullah, 1,800 rescue personnel and 264 divers are engaged in flood response operations.

The floods have so far claimed the lives of 330 people across KP, with Buner district suffering the highest toll of 213 deaths. In addition, 156 people were in injured, the majority in Buner. Over 156 houses were damaged and 62 completely destroyed by the rains in the district, officials reported.

So far, rescue teams have reportedly rescued over 510 people trapped by rising waters.

Relief efforts are also underway with 54 truckloads of aid dispatched to flood-affected districts, including Buner; the latter has so far received financial assistance of Rs500 million.
