GREEN LOCKDOWN AND AIR POLLUTION

An air quality index (AQI) reading of over 1000 in Lahore led to the government closing primary schools for a week on Sunday.

The smog contains high concentrations of PM2.5 pollutants, which are cancer causing micro-particles that enter the bloodstream through the lungs. The pollutants peaked at a concentration of 610 µg/m³.

Citizens are being urged to wear masks and stay indoors. Many office workers are being permitted to work from home to avoid unnecessary travel and vehicle pollution.

However, media reported on Sunday that despite the SOPs, rickshaws and other vehicles continue to be found on the road, while many pedestrians continue to not wear masks.
