PAC orders probe into NADRA data leak

ISLAMABAD: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday ordered a thorough probe into the leakage of citizens’ data by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
Chairing a meeting at the Parliament House, PAC Chairman Noor Alam Khan said that the leak of NADRA data was a matter of national security.
He said that the leaked data was sold, compromising the records of every Pakistani citizen, making it a critical issue for the country’s survival.
The FIA officials told the briefing that they faced resistance from NADRA authorities during the inquiry. They said that while they were obtaining records when one of NADRA’s officers went to the high court challenging the inquiry.
At this, Noor Alam Khan said the judge stopping inquiry into the matter should be shown the leaked data of his family.
He emphasied that the sensitive matter should be investigated for the preservation of Pakistan’s integrity.

The PAC chairman remarked that Pakistan’s judiciary ranks 128th in the world, and inquiries into the NADRA data leak and the corruption in the NTL should be conducted to uncover the facts.
The PAC directed a fact-finding investigation into the NADRA data leak and the corruption in the NTL.
On July 7, the PAC asked the interior ministry to hold a joint investigation into the data leaks case.
