PAF launches flood relief operation in G-B

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Air Force has initiated a relief operation in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B), the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday.

A C-130 aircraft transported seven tons of dry rations to the region. The consignment, which included food items and medicines, will be distributed in flood-hit areas with the support of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

Despite road closures, the relief goods were delivered on time.

The ISPR said 75 stranded people were also moved to safe locations, while relief operations for the affected population would continue.

Meanwhile, thousands of people in Gilgit-Baltistan remain without drinking water, electricity, and road connectivity, as efforts continued to restore normal life after weeks of flash floods.

Officials confirmed there was no flooding in the rivers, while local volunteers had begun work to restore water channels and roads in various parts of the region.

However, several routes, including the Naltar Highway and the Ghizer-Shandur Road, remained blocked. The Baltistan Highway in Skardu’s Roundu Valley was reopened after being closed for several days.

According to GB government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq, Ghizer was the worst-affected district. He said the floods, among the worst in the region’s history, had killed 39 people, including tourists, since July and caused damages worth an estimated Rs30 billion.
