KARACHI: Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong reaffirmed the “unbreakable” friendship between Pakistan and China, highlighting the leaders’ commitment to protecting mutual interests and promoting peace in the region.

In a PTV News interview, Weidong said the Pak-China friendship has remained steadfast for the past 72 years. “We are true friends who stand by each other in challenging times, and good brothers who share weal and woe.”

The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) has played a crucial role in this bilateral relationship, with 36 completed or ongoing projects bringing significant direct investment of $25.4 billion to Pakistan.

The projects, including infrastructure, energy, and industry initiatives, have positively impacted Pakistan’s development and regional connectivity. Cooperation between the two governments will focus on developing the agriculture, industry, and transport sectors, with priority given to marginalized and less-developed areas, the Vice FM said.

He also pointed out CPEC’s success in the growth of Gwadar Port, which transformed it into a regional transport hub and the first-ever port logistics corridor in the area.

Other developments in Gwadar, such as the Eastbay Expressway, the new Gwadar International Airport, and Gwadar Free Zone North, have further bolstered economic activity.

China’s aid in providing solar PV systems, a desalination plant, healthcare, and educational resources have also significantly improved the well-being and prospects of the local community.

Weidong emphasized the importance of deepening Pak-China strategic cooperation to overcome the challenges of a rapidly changing world. The recent visit of Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng reflects the significance both countries place on strengthening their bilateral ties further.
