Hotline contact will be held between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of Pakistan and India today. Pakistan DGMO Major General Kashif Abdullah and his Indian counterpart Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai will hold discussions as part of the ceasefire agreement reached between the two warring rival nations on Saturday.
As per Indian media, the meeting between the Pakistan and India DGMOs has already started.
In India, before the DGMOs contact, an important meeting was also held under the chairmanship of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The military operations chiefs will discuss the next steps for the nuclear-armed neighbours after a ceasefire returns calm to the border, following their fiercest fighting in nearly three decades.
Saturday’s ceasefire in the Himalayan region, announced by US President Donald Trump, followed four days of intense firing and diplomacy and pressure from Washington.
The arch rivals had targeted each other’s military installations with missiles and drones, killing dozens of civilians as relations turned sour after India blamed Pakistan for an attack that killed 26 tourists.
Pakistan denies the accusations and has called for a neutral investigation.
As per the latest update, according to the Indian media, the DGMOs meeting is likely to be postponed for a few hours. The meeting will likely take place this evening.
