Pakistan army takes control of D-chowk

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Army has taken control of D-Chowk Islamabad as PTI protestors led by Bushra Bibi inch towards the vicinity.

The federal government had given the go ahead to deploy the army in the capital city by invoking section 245 early Tuesday morning after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) protest turned violent and crushed four rangers personnel under their vehicle in Islamabad.

The Interior Ministry had issued a notification allowing the army to assist the local forces in maintaining law and order. The notification also grants the army authority to impose curfew wherever necessary to curb lawlessness.

The army has been authorized to shoot any miscreants who take the law into their own hands or cause damage to any state institutions.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi had also said that there is a possibility of imposing curfew in Islamabad if the situation arises.

He said it would be “very easy” for the government to open fire, but added that we would exercise restrain for the time being.
