Pakistan calls on India to cease state terrorism, engage in dialogue at UNSC meeting

Saima Saleem UNSC

NEW YORK: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Saima Saleem delivered a sharp rebuttal to India during a UN Security Council (UNSC) debate on civilian protection in armed conflicts on Friday.

The diplomat challenged New Delhi’s refusal to accept Pakistan’s offer for an independent investigation into the Pahalgam attack, asking: “Why is India evading from a transparent probe?” She revealed that between May 6 to 10, India’s “unprovoked aggression” killed 40 Pakistani civilians and injured 121 others.

UN representative Saleem accused India of weaponising water resources – “Water is life for Pakistan’s people, not a weapon of war” – and sponsoring terrorist groups while masquerading as a “good neighbor.” She cited the Khuzdar school bus attack that killed innocent children as evidence of state-sponsored terrorism.

Pakistan to brief UNSC on latest regional developments

On Kashmir, Pakistan’s envoy urged meaningful dialogue to resolve the dispute peacefully, asserting that India continues to suppress the Kashmiri freedom movement. She reiterated Pakistan’s internationally recognised counterterrorism efforts and commitment to global partnerships against extremism.

The statement came during discussions marking the 25th anniversary of Security Council Resolution 1265 on civilian protection. Pakistan had joined the international community in condemning the Pahalgam attack while maintaining its demand for impartial investigations into all such incidents.
