Pakistan condemns consulate attack, criticises German authorities

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan strongly condemns the attack on its consulate in Frankfurt, Germany by an extremist group. A statement by the Foreign Office (FO) also criticized the German authorities for failing to protect the consular mission premises.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch emphasised that under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, 1963, the host government is obligated to protect the sanctity of consular premises and ensure the safety of diplomats.

In the incident, the security of Pakistan’s consulate in Frankfurt was compromised, putting the lives of its consular staff at risk.

The FO conveyed a strong protest to the German government, urging it to take immediate steps to fulfil its obligations under the Vienna Conventions and ensure the security of Pakistani diplomatic missions and staff in Germany.

Additionally, the spokesperson called for the German authorities to arrest and prosecute those involved in the attack and hold accountable those responsible for the security lapses.
