ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Air Force (PAF) has reportedly destroyed India’s advanced S-400, multi billion dollar, air defence system.
Pakistan on early Saturday morning launched Operation Banyan Al-Marsous in response to recent Indian hostilities.
According to security sources, JF-17 Thunder jets of the PAF targeted the S-400 air defence system installation in Adampur, located in the Indian state of Punjab. The strike was reportedly carried out using hypersonic missiles. The destroyed system is estimated to be worth around $1.5 billion.

The operation began at dawn with the launch of the “Fatah-1” missile. Security officials confirmed that key Indian military installations — including the Udhampur and Pathankot airbases, as well as a BrahMos missile storage depot — sustained heavy damage.
Sources say the counteroffensive is expanding in scope, with at least 12 high-value targets inside India hit so far.
Military officials emphasized that the operation is defensive in nature and aimed at protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty.
S-400 DEFENCE SYSETM
The S-400 Triumf, known in NATO circles as the SA-21 Growler, is a Russian-made mobile surface-to-air missile system developed by Almaz-Antey. Built to counter a variety of airborne threats, the system can hit targets as far as 400 kilometers away and up to 30 kilometers in altitude.
Key components of the S-400 include a multifunction radar for early detection, a command-and-control unit, and mobile launch vehicles that can carry different types of missiles. India’s S-400 units use a mix of interceptors, including the long-range 40N6E — effective up to 400 kilometers — and the 48N6E3 for mid-range threats up to 250 kilometers.
For close-range defense, the 9M96E2 missiles offer precision targeting, especially against drones and cruise missiles. The system’s advanced phased-array radar is capable of tracking around 300 targets at once, making it a powerful defence asset in high-risk, multi-threat environments.
