Pakistan FM, Afghanistan counterpart agree to continue cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and his Afghan counterpart Amir Muttaqi have agreed to continue close cooperation to promote mutual trust. The two foreign ministers held discussions on Sunday over a telephonic conversation.

According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, Foreign Minister Dar had announced, two days ago, to elevate Pakistan’s embassy in Afghanistan to ambassadorial status. In response to this, Afghanistan also upgraded its Charge D’affaires in Islamabad to ambassadorial rank yesterday.

The FO spokesperson said that the Afghan Foreign Minister welcomed Pakistan’s decision to upgrade diplomatic relations to the level of ambassador and said that this step is a very positive development in the trust and bilateral relations between the two countries.

The two Foreign Ministers also reviewed the implementation of the decisions taken in the April 19 meeting and agreed to continue close cooperation to promote mutual trust, the FO spokesperson said.
