Pakistan formally welcomes Trump’s statement on Kashmir issue

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has formally welcomed United States President Donald Trump’s statement regarding Pakistan-India relations, especially the Kashmir issue. In a statement issued by the Foreign Office, Pakistan appreciated the US President’s expression of support towards efforts aimed at resolving the Kashmir dispute.

The Foreign Office commended the United States’ role in working with other friendly countries to facilitate the ceasefire along the Line of Control, terming it a step towards reducing tensions and enhancing regional stability.

The FO spokesperson also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working with the United States and the international community to advance peace, security, and prosperity in the region.

The FO statement reiterated the importance of safeguarding the fundamental rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, including their right to self-determination. The statement said that the dispute has serious implications for peace and security in South Asia, and beyond. It called for a just and lasting settlement of the Jammu and Kashmir issue in accordance with relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

The FO spokesperson also said that Pakistan seeks to deepen its multilateral partnership with the United States and looks forward to expanding cooperation in trade, investment, and economic development.

‘PRESIDENT TRUMP, GREAT PARTNER TO PAKISTAN’

In a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed gratitude to President Trump for his “leadership and commitment to global peace”.

The PM wrote that for decades, Pakistan and the US have been partners who worked together closely to protect and promote our mutual interests, adding that Pakistan has found a great partner in President Trump who can strengthen Pakistan-US ties and reinvigorate their strategic partnership.
