ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is observing a day of mourning today (Friday) in solidarity with the Palestinians reeling under Israeli brutalities following the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

The decision was taken yesterday in a consultative meeting of the allied parties regarding the deteriorating situation in Palestine presided over by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

In the joint declaration, it was decided to perform the funeral prayer in absentia of Haniyeh in the entire country after the Friday prayer.

The premier declared the Israeli atrocities against helpless Palestinians a tragedy for the Muslim world.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has also declared Friday a day of mourning for slain Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

“A national day of mourning will be declared today in solidarity with the Palestinian cause and in solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters,” Erdogan said in a social media post today.

The mortal remains of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh have arrived in Doha, Qatar, a day after his assassination by Israel.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had led funeral prayer for the slain Hamas leader in Tehran earlier today.

Another round of funeral prayers will take place at the Imam Abdul Wahhab Mosque in the Qatari capital tomorrow after the Friday prayers. His body will then be transported to his final resting place at the Founder Imam Cemetery in Lusail.

The Middle East situation got tensed with the assassination of Haniyeh, with Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah warned that the group was bound to respond to Israel’s killing of its top military commander, saying his death and that of the Hamas leader “crossed” red lines.
