ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed condolences over South Korean plane crash on Sunday.
PM Shehbaz Sharif expresses grief over the plane crash and said that he is deeply saddened by the tragic plane crash at Moan International Airport, and that he “regrets the loss of precious lives in the plane crash.”
The prime minister said that Pakistan stands with the people and government of South Korea in this time of grief.
DEATH TOLL TOPS 120
Meanwhile, latest reports from Seoul said that the death toll from the air plane crash has reached 120.
The accident occurred as Jeju Air flight 7C2216, carrying 175 passengers and six crew on a flight from the Thai capital Bangkok, was landing at the airport in the south of the country, Reuters reported.
Only two survivors have been confirmed rescued. The remaining passengers and crew members are presumed dead.
Jeju Air CEO Kim E-bae held a press conference and bowed in an apology to the families of the plane crash victims.
Jeju Air released a statement on Sunday saying that it will spare no effort to cope with the crash of its flight. The airline’s chief executive said that its top priority is supporting bereaved families of the victims, The Korea Times reported.
BIRD STRIKE, WEATHER LIKELY CAUSES
Earlier, the rescue team officials said that the crash is believed to have been caused by “contact with birds, resulting in malfunctioning landing gear” as the plane attempted to land at the airport in the country’s southwest. However, the exact cause of the crash will be announced after a joint investigation.
There are also reports that some passengers lost their lives attempting to jump from the plane, as it caught fire upon landing crash.
The investigation into the crash as well as the rescue efforts of potential survivors are underway.
