Pakistan rejects Modi’s provocative allegations, reiterates regional restraint

ISLAMABAD: Addressing the statements raised by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “baseless and inflammatory” Pakistan on Friday categorically dismissed the allegations with the Foreign Office (FO) warning that such statements dangerously escalate regional tensions.

In a strongly-worded statement, FO spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan said linking Pakistan to terrorism was “misleading and contrary to facts,” adding that India’s “false narratives” violate UN Charter principles. “The international community must take note of these violations,” he added.

The spokesperson accused India of attempting to divert attention from its human rights abuses in occupied Kashmir, stating: “Pakistan desires peace but this should not be mistaken for weakness. We possess the capability to respond decisively to any aggression.”

Khan reiterated that the Kashmir dispute remains the core issue of regional tension, stressing that its resolution must align with UN Security Council resolutions and Kashmiri aspirations. He also denied India’s “fabricated claims” about Pakistan targeting Sikh religious sites during recent tensions, calling the allegations “absurd.”

The statement came as Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar visited China, with Pakistan also condemning Israel’s ongoing attacks in Gaza. “Regional peace requires dialogue, not provocation,” Khan concluded, reaffirming Pakistan’s role as a key partner in counterterrorism efforts.
