DUSHANBE: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a significant meeting today with the President of Tajikistan, H.E. Emomali Rahmon, in Dushanbe.

The leaders convened at Qasr e Millat, where President Rahmon warmly welcomed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with a guard of honor during an official ceremony.

The day’s agenda included a one-on-one discussion followed by extensive talks between delegations. They covered a broad spectrum of topics, focusing on bilateral cooperation, regional dynamics, and global issues of mutual concern.

Both leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening the historical, cultural, and geographical ties that bind Pakistan and Tajikistan.

Discussions encompassed various facets of bilateral collaboration, spanning trade, investment, connectivity, culture, education, science & technology, defence, humanitarian aid, parliamentary exchanges, and people-to-people interactions. Both parties expressed satisfaction with current relations and pledged to enhance mutual efforts further.

A landmark achievement of the meeting was the signing of the Strategic Partnership Agreement, marking a pivotal shift towards long-term strategic cooperation. This agreement is set to unlock new opportunities for deeper collaboration between the two nations.

Additionally, several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were inked to bolster cooperation in aviation, diplomacy, education, sports, industrial collaboration, tourism, and more.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also briefed President Rahmon on the concerning human rights situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK) and expressed mutual dismay over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, urging global intervention for peace.

This visit, upon the invitation of President Rahmon, underscores Pakistan’s commitment to fortify bilateral engagements, fostering a robust and enduring relationship between the two brotherly nations.

Earlier, upon arrival at Dushanbe International Airport, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was warmly greeted by Tajikistan’s Prime Minister, Mr. Qohir Rasulzoda. In a gesture of respect, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid homage to Tajikistan’s heritage by laying a floral wreath at the Ismoili Somoni Statue, a national symbol of Tajikistan.
