Pakistan urges UN to address terror threats from Afghanistan

WEB DESK: Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram, has urged the international community to take notice of the growing threat posed by terrorist organisations operating from Afghanistan.

Addressing the UN Security Council, Munir Akram warned that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) is emerging as an umbrella organisation for various militant groups. He highlighted that over 20 terrorist outfits in Afghanistan pose a significant threat to regional and global security, including Al-Qaeda, TTP, Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), and Majeed Brigade.

“These groups are endangering Pakistan’s security and regional stability,” Akram stated, stating the TTP is the largest and most active terrorist organisation in Afghanistan. He pointed out that TTP attacks have resulted in hundreds of casualties, with Pakistan coming under repeated attacks.

Akram also presented evidence indicating that authorities in the bordering country are facilitating these attacks, targeting civilians, security forces, and state institutions. He further stressed that the TTP operates from safe havens across Afghanistan to launch attacks on Pakistan. He cautioned that TTP’s ties with Al-Qaeda could escalate the group into a broader global terrorist threat, urging decisive action to curb its influence.
