Pakistani community in NYC protest against Indian ‘war frenzy’

India-Pakistan tensions

NEW YORK: Members of the Pakistani diaspora in the United States held a protest in Manhattan’s Times Square on Sunday, condemning India’s “war-mongering” and expressing solidarity with Pakistan.

A large number of Pakistani expatriates gathered, waving the national flag and chanting slogans in support of their homeland. The demonstrators denounced Indian aggression, sending a clear message that the world needs peace, not war, and urging the international community not to view Pakistan with prejudice. Last week on April 22, militants attacked the tourist destination in Pahalgam in Indian Occupied Kashmir killing 24 tourists mostly from India. As a result, India unilaterally broke off Indus Water Treaty, cancelled all visas and accused Pakistan of involvement in the attack without presenting any evidence. Pakistan also responded by calling off Shimla Agreement and warning India of dire consequences if sovereignty was breached in any way.

Protesters stressed that despite internal differences, the Pakistani nation stands united when it comes to defending the country. “The entire nation puts aside its differences and comes together on one platform for Pakistan,” said one participant.

The demonstration saw participation from individuals affiliated with various Pakistani political parties, all expressing their grief and anger over rising tensions in the region.

“Pakistan’s people never desire war, but if war is imposed on us, the entire nation will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our armed forces,” vowed one of the attendees.

The protest reflected the diaspora’s strong emotional connection to Pakistan and its concerns over escalating hostilities in South Asia.
