Pakistani sailor martyred, Indian fishermen arrested in sea encounter

KARACHI: Indian fishermen were captured by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) for illegally fishing within Pakistani waters. During the encounter, one PMSA sailor lost his life while two Indian fishermen went missing.

The incident occurred when a PMSA ship patrolling Pakistan’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) intercepted eight Indian fishing vessels. Despite warnings, one fishing boat attempted to flee towards Indian waters. Upon boarding, the fishing vessel collided with the PMSA ship, resulting in its sinking.
The PMSA personnel and seven Indian fishermen fell into the sea as a result. This led to the martyrdom of a PMSA sailor Muhammad Rehan while two Indian fishermen reportedly went missing.
Immediate rescue operations were initiated, with five Indian fishermen and four PMSA personnel successfully rescued from the sea.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against the Indian fishermen for illegal fishing activities within Pakistani waters.
The PMSA reiterated its commitment to Pakistan’s maritime security and vowed to prevent unlawful activities at sea. The maritime security agency stated that the sacrifice of Muhammad Rehan serves as a reminder of the risks associated with maritime operations
