DHAKA: More Pakistani students in Bangladesh are expected to be repatriated in the coming days, the country’s high commissioner said on Sunday as the death toll mounted in clashes in the South Asian state.
“One-third of students – out of the 144 Pakistani students in Bangladesh – have already returned to Pakistan,” Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh Syed Maroof said in a statement.
He asked the Pakistani students to remain vigilant of the changing situation. As soon as the situation started to deteriorate, the students were asked to reach the High Commission immediately.
At least 90 killed in Bangladesh renewed violence
Syed Ahmed Maroof said Pakistani students have been asked to stay confined to their rooms and keep themselves away from the current situation.

The Envoy said some of the students who remained in Bangladesh have reached the High Commission. He said the High Commission is in constant touch with the students and will continue to take all possible measures to ensure their safety.
At least 91 people were killed on Sunday alone, including 14 police officers, with the rival sides battling with sticks and knives and security forces firing rifles, taking the total killed since protests began in July to at least 261.
Rallies that began last month against civil service job quotas have escalated into some of the worst unrest of Hasina’s 15-year rule and shifted into wider calls for the 76-year-old to step down.
