Pakistan’s envoy returns from Iran, chargé d’affaires summoned

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Ambassador to Iran Muhammad Mudassar Tipu arrived back in the country from Tehran after tensions between the neighbourly countries escalated on Thursday.

Mudassar Tipu arrived back in Islamabad today morning after Pakistan had decided to recall its envoy from Iran following an air attack on a Pakistani village which left two children dead.

According to Ministry of Foreign affairs, Pakistani Ambassador Mudassar Tipu has held farewell meetings with Pakistani diplomatic staff in Tehran before heading back to the country.

The Foreign Ministry on Wednesday ordered Mudassar Tipu to return home and at the same time asked Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam, who was in Iran, not to return to Pakistan “for the time being” while completely suspending all high-level ongoing visits.

Meanwhile, following the missile attack carried out by Pakistan on Iran’s Sistan and Baluchestan province, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Pakistani chargé d’affaires on Thursday morning.

The Pakistani chargé d’affaires was summoned to the foreign ministry to provide an explanation about the incident.

Issuing a statement, the Pakistani foreign ministry said that Islamabad has targeted the position of a Pakistani terrorist group. It said that the purpose of the action was to secure Pakistan’s national security and interests.

Pakistan fully respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran, the statement added. It further said that Pakistan will continue its efforts to find joint solutions with Iran to combat terrorism. – INP
