PDMA issues flood warning for Taunsa Barrage

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a flood alert for the Indus River at Taunsa Barrage.

According to PDMA, a medium-level flood is currently developing at Taunsa Barrage, where the water flow has reached 418,000 cusecs and is rising steadily.

Low-level flooding is also being observed at Guddu and Sukkur barrages, said the PDMA spokesperson.

Rescue 1122 has been instructed to make emergency preparations, while departments of local government, health, irrigation, and agriculture have been placed on alert. Similar alerts have also been issued to the forestry, livestock, and transport departments.

Following instructions from Punjab Chief Minister, PDMA has urged all departments to complete precautionary measures without delay.

DG PDMA stressed that the public should be updated regularly and follow issued safety guidelines. In case of emergency, citizens are advised to contact PDMA helpline at 1129.
