Pervaiz Elahi remanded into NAB custody till August 21

Lahore: An accountability court on Tuesday granted the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) six-day physical remand of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) president and former Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Pervaiz Elahi in a case pertaining to bribery in development project contracts.

Pervaiz Elahi arrested again after release

The PTI leader, arrested by the accountability watchdog after being released from Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi was presented before the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Zubair Kiyani.

As the hearing commenced, Parvez Elahi’s lawyer, Amjad Pervaiz, requested the court to allow him five minutes to speak with his client.

NAB counsel Waris Janjua told the court four other suspects have already been arrested in connection with the case.

As CM Punjab, Janjua informed court, Elahi had announced a development package of Rs72 billion for his home district, Gujrat. Th NAB counsel argued that these packages were approved in violation of law.

Janjua further said funds for these projects were released even before the development work started, and Moonis Elahi, son of PTI president attended several meetings where these projects were discussed.

Amjad Pervaiz told the court the said cases against Elahi are being heard by the Supreme Court and Lahore High Court.

NAB counsel sought a 14-day physical remand which was disallowed, with the judge handing Elahi into NAB custody till August 21.
