Peshawar BRT

PESHAWAR: Peshawar’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system continued to build on its success in 2024, marking significant milestones that have transformed the city’s public transport landscape.

According to a spokesperson from TransPeshawar (Zu Peshawar), the BRT’s dedicated transit service, was used approximately 86.5 million times during the year 2024, bringing the total number of trips to an impressive 300 million since its launch.

The system now serves over 345,000 passengers daily, with 30 per cent of the passengers being women.

The year also saw the introduction of three new routes, including the much-anticipated University Express Service, aimed at providing students and faculty with quicker access to educational institutions. This addition further expanded the reach of the BRT network, making it even more accessible for residents across the city.

TransPeshawar’s innovative Bus Industry Restructuring Program received global recognition, securing an honorary mention at the Sustainable Transport Awards held in China. This was part of a broader achievement in which Peshawar BRT was honored with five international accolades, highlighting its positive impact on urban mobility.

In another major development, the sale of Zo cards – used for travel on the BRT – reached 240,000, bringing the total number of cards sold to over 1.9 million. Additionally, the Zo Bicycle Sharing System saw 2,130 new registrations, including 17 women, with the system facilitating over 224,000 trips.

The integration of the registration process with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) system has made it even easier for residents to sign up.

In terms of customer service, TransPeshawar also addressed around 23,500 complaints via its helpline and social media channels, ensuring passengers had a seamless experience. Moreover, significant efforts were made to enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal, with renovation work completed at key locations including Hashtnagri, University Town, Islamia College, and the PDA underpasses.

As part of accessibility initiatives, 115 wheelchairs were provided at BRT stations to assist passengers with disabilities as well.
