PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court recently conducted a hearing on a petition challenging the delay in elections.
The hearing, presided over by Justice Syed Arshad Ali and Justice Dr Khurshid Iqbal, resulted in the issuance of a notice to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The petitioner’s lawyer emphasised that the concern pertains to elections across the entire country, not just within a single province. In response, Justice Syed Arshad Ali issued a notice to the Election Commission, requesting their response by September 11.

The ECP meanwhile stated that the schedule for constituencies has already been released and reiterated that elections cannot be held before the stipulated time. Advocate Ali Azim Afridi highlighted the Supreme Court’s order that prevents the Election Commission from influencing the electoral process.
The court’s inquiry into the matter remains under Justice Syed Arshad Ali’s consideration. Notably, there is no scheduled case for this issue in the Supreme Court, according to the Assistant Attorney General of Peshawar.
