Peshawar increases BRT fares by Rs5 per stop

PESHAWAR: Authorities in Peshawar announced an increase in fares for the city’s Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system by Rs5 per stop.
According to the notification, the minimum rent for BRT travel is now set at Rs20, while the maximum fare has been capped at Rs60.

The announcement outlined the revised fare structure in detail. For a 5 kilometre (km) journey, the fare was increased from Rs15 to Rs20. For a distance of 10-15 km, the price surged to Rs35. Meanwhile, for 15-20 km, the price for a ticket increased to Rs40.
The fare for a 20-25 km trip has been set at Rs45, and for 25-30 km, it will be Rs50. The price for a 30-35 km journey will be Rs55, and for 35-40 km, it will be Rs60.
The authorities also announced a 50 per cent discount for citizens over the age of 60, who will be issued special cards to avail the concession. Children under 5 years old will be allowed to travel with their parents for free.
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is a high-speed public transportation system that uses dedicated infrastructure to provide faster and more efficient service compared to traditional buses. BRT systems feature dedicated lanes, specialised stations, level boarding, off-board fare collection, and larger, more frequent vehicles.

The Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (TransPeshawar) system was launched in 2020. It aimed to deliver a modern and more sustainable public transportation solution for the city’s 2.5 million residents.
The PBRT system incorporates many of the key features of BRT, such as dedicated lanes and stations, to improve the commuting experience for Peshawar’s citizens. It has a daily ridership of over 330,000 people.
