Petrol dealers threaten nationwide strike

ISLAMABAD: Petrol dealers in Pakistan have issued another warning of a potential strike due to their dissatisfaction with the commission rates following recent petrol price hikes.

According to sources, the Pakistani Petroleum Dealers’ Association (PPDA) Chairman Abdul Sami Khan stated that a deadline of September 1 had been set for increasing the dealer’s margin, but the increase has yet to be put into effect.

Meanwhile, Khan said that despite reaching a written agreement with the government and other officials, the Ministry of Petroleum has not raised the dealer margin.

As per the sources, he also said that running petrol pumps has become financially difficult because of higher expenses with the current dealer margin. He further added that if an immediate decision to increase the dealer margin is not reached, the dealers will proceed with a strike.

However, the development came after petroleum product prices were raised on Friday, with petrol prices increasing by 14.91 rupees per liter and diesel by 18.44 rupees per liter.
