PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has issued orders to strike off the names of Members National Assembly (MNA) Junaid Akbar and Mujahid Ali from the Exit Control List (ECL).

The court also ordered to take the politicians’ names out of the Provisional National Identification List (PNIL). The decision came during the hearing on petitions filed against the inclusion of their names in these lists.

The hearing, presided over by a two-member bench comprising Justice Shakeel Ahmed and Justice Syed Arshad Ali, addressed the concerns raised by the petitioners’ counsel regarding the inclusion of their clients’ names in the ECL and PNIL.

Advocates representing the petitioners highlighted that Junaid Akbar, now an elected MNA, should not be subjected to such restrictions. “As he has now been democratically elected to serve the nation, his name should be removed from these lists,” stated the petitioner’s counsel.

It was revealed during the proceedings that the inclusion of their names in the ECL and PNIL was at the behest of the provincial government. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) informed the court that their names were added upon the request of the provincial authorities.

Taking into consideration the arguments presented, PHC disposed of the petitions and ordered the immediate removal of both the MNA’s names from both the ECL and PNIL.
