PIA in crisis: over 300 flights cancelled in 10 days

RAWALPINDI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is teetering on the brink of a complete shutdown, having cancelled more than 300 flights within the last 10 days.

According to Dawn.com, the crippling situation has been worsened by a severe fuel shortage and an ongoing financial crisis, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the national carrier.

The reports indicate that PIA is currently grappling with what is arguably the most significant crisis in its history, primarily stemming from a dispute with Pakistan State Oil (PSO) over unpaid dues, leading to a drastic reduction in fuel supply. Since October 14, the airline has been forced to cancel 322 flights, with 134 of them affecting international routes.

Adding to the chaos, Tuesday saw the cancellation of 51 flights, including 27 on domestic routes, leaving thousands of passengers in distress. Regrettably, PIA’s management has been unable to provide passengers with a clear timeline for their delayed flights, compelling many to scramble for available seats on alternative airlines.

The airline’s spokesperson expressed the management’s commitment to accommodating affected passengers on other available flights while extending their heartfelt apologies for the immense inconvenience caused by the ongoing cancellations.
