PIA resumes flights as airspace reopens following ceasefire

The PAA confirmed that all airports across Pakistan were now operational and to check with their airlines for the latest flight schedules.

KARACHI: Following the lifting of airspace restrictions across Pakistan, the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has gradually resumed its operations, the airline announced on Saturday.

The government of Pakistan announced reopening of the airspace soon after both India and Pakistan agreed to ceasefire on Saturday afternoon.

The Pakistan Airport Authority Spokesperson said the country’s airspace has completely been reopened, marking the resumption of the flight operations across the country.

PIA spokesperson Abdullah Hafeez confirmed that flight PK-750 from Paris, which had been diverted to Quetta early in the morning as a precaution, will depart for Islamabad at 9pm.

The airline’s overall operations are expected to resume from 10pm, with all delayed or suspended flights set to be operated during the night. Efforts are also underway to contact passengers who had either returned home or were accommodated in hotels during the disruption, asking them to return to the airport.

Aircraft and essential equipment that were earlier moved to secure locations for safety reasons are now being relocated to operational zones, the spokesperson added.

“We sincerely apologise to passengers for the inconvenience caused due to the suspension of operations, but given the circumstances, precaution was absolutely necessary,” Abdullah said.
