Pillion riding banned across Sindh


Pillion riding (double sawari)

KARACHI: The Sindh government imposed a ban on pillion riding, (commonly known as double sawari) in the province, on Friday, as part of security arrangements for events on Islamic festival of Eid Milad un Nabi on 12th Rabi-ul-Awal (September 29).

According to a notification issued by the Sindh Home Department, the ban has been imposed on pillion riding in all cities on the 11th and 12th Rabi-ul-Awal. The order came in response to a letter from the Sindh police chief, recommending the ban to maintain law and order situation and avoid any untoward incidents during the processions, it is necessary to take immediate measures.

The home department further added that the ban on pillion riding (double sawari) won’t apply to women, children below the age of 12 years, senior citizens, personnel of law enforcement agencies/security agencies in uniform, employees of essential services, and journalists subject to showing their press card/service card.

The government has also announced a public holiday on the occasion of Eid Milad-un-Nabi (12th Rabi-ul-Awal). – INP
