Plea filed with ECP to remove caretaker PM

LAHORE: A formal application has been submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), urging the removal of the caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar, since the designated 90-day term of the caretaker government has passed.

As of November 15, the term of the Caretaker Prime Minister, originally appointed to oversee transitional responsibilities, has concluded without an extension from either the ECP or any constitutional court, according to the petitioner.

Citing the apparent ineffectiveness of the caretaker prime minister following the lapse of the stipulated 90 days, the petitioner has called upon the ECP to issue a directive for the immediate removal of the official from office.

The request comes at a critical juncture as stakeholders seek clarity on the constitutional procedures to be followed in the absence of an extension.

This is not the first time that a plea has been filed in the ECP against the caretaker PM. In September, a lawyer named Syed Azizuddin Kakakhel had also filed a petition in the ECP to remove caretaker Prime Minister Anwar-ul-Haq Kakar from office.

The petition also pleaded to remove Ahad Cheema, Fawad Hasan Fawad and Principal Secretary to PM Syed Toqeer Hussain from their posts, arguing that the transparency of elections will not be possible under these persons being in the caretaker government.
