PM addresses cabinet on flood situation, diplomatic relations

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif spoke at the federal cabinet meeting regarding the recent floods caused by heavy rains, reporting significant loss of life and property.
“The recent rains have caused a flood situation [and] the rains and floods have caused loss of life and property,” he said, adding that the federal government is working closely with provincial governments to respond to the situation.

He noted that two days ago he visited flood-affected areas in Buner, accompanied by the Army Chief. “A briefing was given on the damage caused by the rains in Buner,” the premier said, adding that federal ministers and relevant authorities are actively involved in relief efforts.
“The rescue operation is almost complete. Now the flood-affected people have to be rehabilitated,” he said. “The help and rehabilitation of the victims is the joint responsibility of everyone. Everyone will continue to work together.201D
The PM said that relief operations are ongoing. He also confirmed that, so far, a total of 700 deaths have been reported due to the floods.

Prime Minister Sharif also noted the visit of the Chinese Foreign Minister to Pakistan and announced his own upcoming visit to China. “Pak-China friendship is getting stronger with time,” he added.
The Cabinet has also formally approved dissolution of all Utility Stores Corporation (USC) stores. All employees of the corporation will also be dismissed, sources familiar with the cabinet proceedings said.
During the session, PM Sharif expressed strong anger over increase in medicine prices, and the summary of medicine price determination was returned unapproved.
