PM calls for modernising Islamabad’s healthcare facilities

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Ministry of National Health Services to upgrade and modernize healthcare institutions under the federal government’s jurisdiction, aiming to establish Islamabad as a benchmark for healthcare facilities nationwide.
Chairing a meeting to assess the Ministry of National Health Services Regulations and Coordination, the Prime Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring accessible healthcare services for all citizens, according to a press release from the PM Office.
The Prime Minister urged the health ministry to accelerate progress on the Jinnah Medical Complex and Research Center.
He also called for the pre-qualification process to be expedited to ensure the timely acquisition of medical and surgical equipment for the facility.
He stressed that the pre-qualification process should be overseen by expert consultants and recommended a third-party audit of both the construction work and the procurement of machinery and equipment.
Additionally, Prime Minister Shehbaz instructed officials to begin the process of approving the charter for the university linked to the Jinnah Medical Complex.
During the briefing on Islamabad’s healthcare infrastructure, it was revealed that the Jinnah Medical Complex has been registered as a company under Section 42 of the Companies Act, and its master plan has been approved by the relevant steering committee.

The meeting also highlighted that the recruitment process for the Project Management Unit and Project Implementation Unit of the Jinnah Medical Complex has commenced.
The session was attended by Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar, Prime Minister’s Coordinator for National Health Dr. Malik Mukhtar Ahmed, and other senior government officials.
