PM directs to enhance wheat’s production

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has directed to take effective steps to enhance the production of wheat and other crops.
Chairing a meeting regarding Ministry of National Food Security and Research and Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO), in Islamabad today, he directed to prepare federal government’s alternative strategy regarding the purchase of wheat after consultations with provinces, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and other relevant institutions.
The meeting approved the restructuring of Wheat Board.
He said the restructured Wheat Board should include representatives of farmers, the Land Information Management System and PASSCO.

The prime minister called for taking effective measures to enhance the yield of wheat and other crops.
The Prime Minister said farmers’ representatives as well as those of Land Information and Management System and SUPARCO should be included in the wheat board.
Shehbaz Sharif also directed to prepare an action plan regarding the privatization of PASSCO.
The participants of the meeting were briefed about the ToRs and restructuring of the Wheat Board, and also on increasing the crops yield as well as reforms in the PASSCO.
Federal cabinet members including Ahad Khan Cheema, Muhammad Aurangzeb, Rana Tanveer Hussain, Attaullah Tarar, and Ali Pervaiz Malik, Deputy Chairman of Planning Commission Jahanzeb Khan, PM’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzal and relevant senior officers attended the meeting.
