Bilawal asked to present ‘Pakistan’s case for peace on global stage’

ISLAMABAD: In response to India’s propaganda following recent military tensions, Pakistan has decided to launch a diplomatic campaign under the headship of Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to represent Pakistan’s peace stance at global stage.

In a post on his official X account, Bilawal confirmed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reached out to him with the request.

“I was contacted earlier today by Prime Minister @CMShehbaz, who requested that I lead a delegation to present Pakistan’s case for peace on the international stage,” he wrote.

“I am honoured to accept this responsibility and remain committed to serving Pakistan in these challenging times. Pakistan Zindabad.”

PPP also confirmed via its official X account that a high-level committee under Bilawal’s leadership has been formed. The committee will brief the international community on India’s aggression and its disinformation campaign against Pakistan.

Meanwhile, sources privy to the matter told HUM News English that a delegation under the headship of Bilawal is being formed for diplomatic outreach.

Musadik Malik, Khurram Dastgir, Sherry Rehman, Hina Rabbani Khar, Faisal Sabzwari, Tehmina Janjua and Jalil Abbas Jilani are also part of the delegation, sources claimed.

The delegation will expose India’s propaganda and its efforts to destroy peace in South Asia in London, Washington, Paris and Brussels.

The move comes amid growing global attention following the recent standoff between India and Pakistan, which escalated after the April 22 Pahalgam incident in Indian-occupied Kashmir, where 26 tourists were killed. India accused Pakistan of orchestrating the attack, which Islamabad categorically denied.

In retaliation, India launched airstrikes on the night of May 6-7, prompting a forceful military response from Pakistan, including the downing of five Indian jets. On May 10, Pakistan launched Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, targeting 26 Indian military sites. A ceasefire was eventually brokered later that day through the intervention of US President Donald Trump.

Throughout the conflict, countries including China, Türkiye, and Azerbaijan publicly supported Pakistan’s position. India, however, found diplomatic backing only from Israel and has reportedly begun retaliating diplomatically against nations that supported Islamabad.

India also launches diplomatic campaign

In a parallel move, India has also decided to send a parliamentary delegation — led by Congress MP Shashi Tharoor and comprising members from various parties — to the US, UK, South Africa, Qatar, and the UAE to justify its position on the South Asian crisis, The Hindu reported on Friday.

Additionally, New Delhi is expected to brief diplomatic attachés from around 70 countries.

It may be added here that during his tenure as foreign minister under the PDM government in 2022, Bilawal effectively presented Pakistan’s case for climate justice on the global stage.

According to the PPP, his diplomatic efforts played a key role in the establishment of the “Loss and Damage” fund during the UN Climate Change Conference (COP27) in Egypt in November 2022 — a milestone aimed at supporting countries affected by climate disasters.

In an interview with Arab News in December 2022, Bilawal noted that the creation of the fund was a breakthrough that climate activists had been pushing for over the past three decades, adding that he was proud it materialised under Pakistan’s chairmanship of the G77.
