LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the concerned authorities to consider and implement an age relaxation proposal for the re-induction of ‘hard-working and honest’ individuals working in the Pakistan Public Works Department (Pak-PWD) with short tenure of service before its dissolution.
The premier chaired a review meeting in Lahore regarding the dissolution of the PWD.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had ordered the immediate dissolution of the Pak-PWD as part of the government plan to do away with loss-making state departments and enterprises under the privatisation policy.
In the meeting, a briefing was given to the prime minister regarding the final steps and legal aspects of dissolution of Pak-PWD.
The prime minister stated that the financial package for retrenched PWD employees will not be given to those against whom serious corruption charges have been proven.
The prime minister instructed that the final plan for transferring ongoing projects under Pak PWD to the provinces and related institutions should be submitted to the federal cabinet at the earliest.
Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal, Minister for Housing and Works Riaz Hussain Pirzada and senior officers of related institutions attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz Sharif assigned the task of making federal government offices paperless to the Ministry of Information Technology and related institutions.
The prime minister said that any delay in the implementation of the e-office system in federal government offices will not be tolerated.
He stated that work on the e-office should be completed within one month, as he will not review any paper files that are submitted without using the e-office system.
Shehbaz Sharif said that the implementation of e-office is one of the top priorities of the government to bring transparency and speed up the system of work.
The prime minister directed the authorities to ensure that officers in all government offices send files through e-office system.
The Prime Minister’s Office staff received training on the e-office system last week, and the prime minister received files through it.
Prime Minister Sharif further said that e-office system is a very key initiative to promote digitisation and improve governance in Pakistan.
He also directed to submit a progress report on the implementation of the e-office system in the next two weeks.
