ISLAMABAD – Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar asserted that any party can try to use the ‘victim card’ as a narrative for the general elections next year.
Responding to claims made by prominent parties such as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), PM Kakar said that the caretaker government is committed to ensuring early and fair elections without bias towards any party.
As the nation gears up for the upcoming general elections, both the PTI and PPP have consistently raised concerns about the absence of a level-playing field during the pre-election period. Alleging efforts to favor the return to power of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), they have accused the caretaker government of displaying favoritism towards the PML-N.

In response to these allegations, the interim prime minister rebuffed claims of biased treatment or playing any part in the incarceration of PTI chairman. PM Kakar clarified that PTI chief’s arrest occurred prior to the establishment of the caretaker government, urging caution in making such allegations.
He said that it is the legal responsibility of the interim setup to ensure the safety of the incarcerated former premier. “We reject social media reports suggesting a threat to his life,” he added. As the general elections draw near, Kakar also emphasised the caretaker government’s top priority of handing over responsibilities to the upcoming elected government.
