NEW YORK: Interim Prime Minister (PM) Anwarul Haq Kakar, speaking at a press briefing held at the Pakistan Mission, said that the murder of a Khalistan leader in Canada has jolted the Western world and has raised questions about the role of the Indian state.
During his address, he said that Pakistan has been a target of state-sponsored terrorism by India for decades. He further stated: “India is employing terrorism as a strategic tool while mistreating the Christian community in the Indian state of Manipur. Our discussions during the New York visit revolved around the Kashmir issue and the rise of Hindutva in India.”
PM Kakar did not shy away from condemning the alleged persecution of Muslims in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), categorising it as a “genocide,” a term he also used in his address at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
“Thousands of Kashmiris are killed and women are raped, besides the extrajudicial killing of the innocent Kashmiris,” he added.

Turning to the situation in Afghanistan, he reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to respecting Afghanistan’s sovereignty and condemned terrorist attacks originating from extremist groups based in Afghanistan against Pakistan. Despite these challenges, he noted, “We are presently engaged in productive dialogues with Afghanistan.”
Furthermore, PM Kakar stressed the robust relations between Pakistan and the United States, emphasising the importance of adhering to United Nations agreements to ensure global peace.
Additionally, PM Kakar assured that the caretaker government is making decisions in the best interest of the public and that an announcement regarding the date of general elections will be forthcoming. “We are committed to providing all political parties with a level playing field,” he asserted.
