PM Office seeks names for replacement of Islamabad police IG, DC

ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister’s Office has written a letter to the Establishment Division, seeking names for replaccement of Islamabad police inspector-general and deputy commissioner, who have been transferred on the orders of the Election Commission of Pakistan.

In the letter, the PM Office has sought a panel of officers to replace Islamabad Police Inspector General Akbar Nasir Khan and Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon, who have been removed from their posts ahead of the upcoming general election.

The The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had earlier directed the Establishment Division to transfer the two officials, but the latter did not comply with the order.

ECP summons Establishment Division secretary over delay in officials’ transfer

The ECP had also summoned the Establishment Division secretary for December 26 to explain the delay in the implementation of its order.

The ECP had also ordred to remove prime minister’s adviser Ahad Cheema from his post as well.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar also sent a summary to the President Arif Alvi for the removal of Ahad Cheema.

The ECP has taken these steps to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the country, scheduled for February 8, 2024.

The ECP has also issued a code of conduct for the candidates, political parties, media and security agencies to follow during the election campaign and polling day.
