PM Shahbaz Sharif to speak on Kashmir, Palestine in UNGA address

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif will participate in the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York from September 23 to 27, 2024, according to a Foreign Office spokesperson.
The PM is scheduled to address the Assembly on September 27, where he will reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to multilateralism and the UN’s role in promoting global peace, security, and prosperity.

In his speech, the Prime Minister will focus on critical international issues, including the resolution of the Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir conflicts.
He is also slated to speak on the need to reform the global financial system and tackle economic inequalities. He will also call for urgent international action on climate change and address the growing concern of Islamophobia.
In addition to his address, PM Sharif will engage in several high-level meetings on the sidelines of the UNGA, including discussions on rising sea levels and a UN Security Council debate on leadership for peace.
PM Sharif is also expected to hold bilateral talks with world leaders, including the UN Secretary-General and the President of the General Assembly.

The UNGA provides Pakistan with a key platform to voice its stance on significant regional and global issues, with the Prime Minister set to express Pakistan’s readiness to collaborate with the international community as a future member of the UN Security Council for 2025-26, the spokesperson said.
