ISLAMABAD: Positive progress has been made between the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), with the latter reportedly agreeing to join the federal cabinet, media reports said on Sunday.

Sources close to the negotiations have revealed that both parties have reached a consensus on government formation, signalling a collaborative effort to steer the nation out of its current crises, Geo News reported. The agreement marks a pivotal moment in Pakistan’s political landscape, with the potential to foster stability and unity.
According to insiders familiar with the discussions, the PPP’s decision to join the federal cabinet comes with key positions within the government to be allocated to the PPP, with the presidency and speakership of the National Assembly earmarked for the party.
While specific details regarding the allocation of positions are yet to be finalised, sources indicate that the Senate chairmanship and appointments of four governors will be decided in due course.

In addition to federal appointments, collaborative efforts between the PML-N and PPP extend to provincial governance arrangements. It is understood that the two parties will form a coalition government in Balochistan, with the premiership likely to be held by a PPP nominee. Furthermore, the PPP is expected to secure ministerial portfolios in Punjab, potentially receiving two to three ministries in the province.
The prospect of a joint government formation between the PML-N and PPP reflects a strategic alignment of interests aimed at addressing the multifaceted challenges confronting Pakistan.
