LAHORE: In a major development, police have arrested six RAW facilitators from different parts of Punjab, who wanted to carry out targeted killings and attacks on sensitive locations, as India continues backing terrorism networks in Pakistan.
The details shared by the police on Wednesday show that they arrested persons were in touch with their Indian handlers from whom they received directions for carrying out terrorism acts.
Meanwhile, the breakthrough comes just before Muharram, a sensitive period, where the terrorists could have attempted to target various places.
Earlier this month, the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) Punjab had foiled a major terrorism bid and captured three terrorists in Faisalabad, as they were planning to carry out attacks in different cities of the province.
According to the CTD spokesperson, the Indian proxies wanted to target Lahore, Pakpattan, Bahawalnagar and Bahawalpur for executing terrorist acts during the Eid days.
TERROR PLAN FOILED
As far as the latest arrests are concerned, Additional IG Shehzad Sultan said the CTD had foiled a plan to attack a mosque and the railway station in Bahawalpur.
Sharing the details, he said they have recovered improvised explosive devices (IEDs), maps of sensitive locations and other items from the Indian proxies.
One of these persons was captured in Bahawalpur, who provided funds from Dubai, he said. Two others were held in Bahawalnagar after getting IEDs from the India’s Border Security Force (BSF), while explosives and detonators seized in Toba Tek Singh, Sultan added.
According to the additional IG, they had also intercepted audio communication between the Indian proxies and their handlers in RAW – Maj Ravendra Rathore and Inspector Singh.
Earlier on Tuesday, the ISPR said two soldiers martyred during an intelligence-based operation in South Waziristan, where security forces killed 11 terrorists and injured seven others.
According to the ISPR, the neutralised terrorists belonged to the Indian-backed proxy group “Fitna al-Khawarij”.
