Allegations of police brutality surfaced following a protest that took place at the Metropole and Karachi Press Club on October 12.

KARACHI: Allegations of police brutality surfaced following a protest that took place at the Metropole and Karachi Press Club on October 12.

After the protest ended, a letter was sent to the Karachi Police Chief regarding negligence by certain officers, including the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South.

The letter named several sub-divisional police officers (SDPOs) from Garden, Eid Gah, Kiamari and the local municipality for failing to perform their duties during the protest.

It recommended departmental action against the accused officers.

The letter also called for action against the station house officers (SHOs) of the Garden, Risala, Preedy and Nabi Bakhsh police stations.

According to reports, women and journalists were mistreated during the protest, with one person killed.

Investigation is currently ongoing.
