ISLAMABAD: With the arrival of spring, high pollen count in Islamabad has become a nightmare for allergy sufferers.
The pollen and mold ratio has surged this year compared to previous years in Islamabad, according to a recent report by Pakistan Meteorological Department.
The latest readings reveal a significantly high pollen ratio in the city, with Paper Mulberry registering at 45,103, which is categorized as “very high” on the severity scale. Pine, Grass, Cannabis, and Alternaria are also elevated at 22, 24, 25, and 27 respectively, contributing to a total ratio of 45,201.
According to experts, the recent increase in temperatures has accelerated the blooming of flowers and trees, releasing abundant pollen into the air.
This phenomenon is particularly troublesome for individuals prone to allergies, leading to symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and congestion.
Kite flying: Section 144 imposed in Islamabad
Residents across Islamabad have reported a noticeable uptick in high pollen levels and allergy-related cases at healthcare facilities making it nearly impossible to enjoy the season.
Pollen allergies in Rawalpindi were insignificant.
Weather conditions further complicate the situation, as allergy sufferers often find relief on windless, cloudy, or rainy days due to limited pollen movement. Conversely, dry, hot, and windy conditions lead to higher pollen and mold concentrations, exacerbating allergy symptoms.
Health authorities advise allergy sufferers to take precautionary measures, including staying indoors during peak pollen hours, using air purifiers, and wearing masks when venturing outside.
Additionally, they recommend consulting healthcare professionals for proper diagnosis and treatment.
