KARACHI: Karachi residents are facing a significant disruption in their water supply as a power outage at the Dhabeji pumping station has resulted in the interruption of the flow of 140 million gallons of water to the city.
According to a spokesperson for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB), the power breakdown began at 5 o’clock in the morning and persisted until 7:20, lasting for approximately over two hours.
“The power outage has had a direct impact on two critical supply lines, Line Number 2 and Line Number 5, both of which have a diameter of 72 inches,” the spokesperson said, adding that repair and maintenance work on these affected supply lines is expected to be completed within the next four days.

As a consequence of this disruption, the spokesperson said Karachi is also grappling with a shortage of water in its government hydrants. This situation has raised concerns among residents who rely on these hydrants for their water needs.
“The water board is working diligently to restore the regular supply of water to Karachi. Further updates will be provided as the situation unfolds,” the spokesperson said.
