PPP bags four seats out of six in Senate by-elections

ISLAMABAD: In Senate by-elections, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) candidates emerged victorious on 4 out of 6 seats, while one candidate each from Pakistan Muslim League (N) and JUI-F secured their seats as senators.
The voting for the Senate by-elections took place in the National Assembly, Sindh Assembly, and Balochistan Assembly. Members of all three houses exercised their right to vote.
Yousuf Raza Gilani of the Pakistan People’s Party was elected as a senator from Islamabad, who secured 204 votes in the National Assembly. His opponent, Ilyas Mehrban of SIC, clinched 88 votes. Members of the National Assembly also extended their congratulations to Yousuf Raza Gilani on his electoral success.
A total of 301 votes were cast in the National Assembly, out of which nine were rejected.
Additionally, in the Sindh Assembly, 124 votes were cast for the Sindh seats, with one vote being rejected.
In the Sindh Assembly, People’s Party candidates Aslam Abro and Jam Saifullah were elected as senators with 57 and 58 votes, respectively. Shazia Sohail and Nazirullah of the Sunni Ittehad Council each received 4 votes.

The results for three Senate seats from the Balochistan Assembly have also been announced, where People’s Party’s Qudoos Bizenjo won with 23 votes, Muslim League-Nawaz’s Dostain Domki with 17 votes, and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl’s Shakoor Ghaybazi with 16 votes.
In the Senate by-elections, there were seven candidates for the three seats from Balochistan, and during the polling in the Balochistan Assembly, 61 out of 62 members cast their votes.
