PPP has never had a level playing field, says Gilani

ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader, Yusuf Raza Gilani, engaged with the media today outside the Accountability Court in Islamabad.

He expressed uncertainty about former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s court appearance, stating, “I was called here before the court” but “I don’t know when Nawaz Sharif will come to court,” he said, adding “I am not the spokesperson of Nawaz Sharif.” This statement serves to distinguish his position from any official capacity within Sharif’s legal or political affairs.

Addressing the issue of providing facilities to incarcerated politicians as per court orders, Gilani asserted, “There is no objection to providing facilities as per court orders.”

Sharing his thoughts on the political climate in the country, he said, “PPP should not object to not getting a level playing field,” adding that PPP never got a level playing field in the past either. He said, “It won’t be new if we are not given a level playing field,” he said, adding, “The people will decide in the upcoming elections.”

In his final comment, he said, “Let the courts decide the matters that are in the courts.”
